With this fourth installment, GENUIN continues the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra's ambitious Bruckner cycle under Chief Conductor Dennis Russell Davies: recordings of Bruckner's symphonic cathedrals in their original versions. The journey begins with his earliest symphonic experiments and extends to his monumental late masterpieces. This installment features the Symphony No. 3 in D minor. As the cycle unfolds month by month, listeners can follow the evolution of Bruckner's symphonic style throughout his career. Like its predecessors, the Third Symphony attracted little more enthusiasm from critics and audiences than the works that preceded it. At the premiere of the revised 1876/77 version on 16 December 1877, large sections of the audience even walked out before the performance had ended.
