Bohemia
Works by Pavel Haas, Leoš Janácek, Josef Bohuslav Foerster, Alexander von Zemlinsky
With the exotic prelude by Pavel Haas, the door opens upon a strange and unfamiliar world of sound as the Acelga Quintet leads us on an exciting musical journey in the ensemble’s new GENUIN release. The five prizewinning musicians bring together works that are connected to Bohemia in the broadest sense: ranging from the late Romantic sonorities of Josef Bohuslav Foerster to Alexander von Zemlinsky’s featherlight Rondo, Leoš Janáček’s tale of youth, and the humorous and offbeat musical mini-dramas by the above-mentioned Pavel Haas. The result is wind playing and chamber music at the very highest level: with their instrumental virtuosity and ensemble synergy, a truly superlative production!

"This is a wonderful first disc by the Acelga Quintett, one which marks them out to be an ensemble to watch. Their playing and sense of ensemble are excellent. The recorded sound is well balanced. The booklet notes by Ingrid Theis are also excellent, making this a most enjoyable release."
