Wolfgang Hentrich
Conductor
In addition to his current position as first concertmaster of the Dresden Philharmonic, Wolfgang Hentrich devotes himself to leading the Dresden Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist he has performed with Marek Janowski, Walter Weller, Sir Neville Marriner, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Markus Poschner, and Andrew Litton, among others.
The artist’s varied repertoire ranges from Baroque music to cyclical performances of violin sonatas, including by Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, and Grieg, to joint appearances with rock musician Dirk Zöllner. His CD productions include several violin concertos, orchestral works by Johann Strauss, Mozart’s sonatas for piano and violin, and works by Paganini for violin and guitar.
Following the example of legendary Viennese concertmaster Willi Boskovsky, Hentrich has conducted numerous New Year’s concerts with the Dresden Philharmonic and the Robert Schumann Philharmonic Orchestra Chemnitz since 1999. As a guest concertmaster, he has performed regularly with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2009, and has recorded Richard Wagner’s operas with the ensemble under the direction of Marek Janowski.
Together with music-loving amateurs he founded the Orchestra of the Friends of the Dresden Philharmonic in 2002, leads large-scale choral concerts, and conducts chorus 116 in Dresden. He repeatedly integrates world premieres or first performances into the programs he designs.
Wolfgang Hentrich is honorary professor of violin at the Dresden College of Music and devotes himself with particular affection to special programs for children and young people. Since August 2013 he has been chief conductor of the Deutsche Streicherphilharmonie. His intensive work with the eleven to twenty-year-old musicians has become a labor of love and plays an important role in his artistic life.
