Andrej Bielow

He was just 24 when he became the first violinist of the Szymanowski Quartet, which has since been showered with prizes: Despite his successes as a soloist, Andrej Bielow, who plays a Joseph Guarneri violin, has an especially strong liking for chamber music—as do his current trio partners Adrian Brendel and Kit Armstrong, with whom he made a brilliant appearance at the Klavier-Festival Ruhr in 2011. Born in the Ukraine, Bielow came to Germany at the age of 15, studied in Hanover, and has been teaching violin and chamber music since 2004. He also earned a degree at the Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur in Paris. In response to the introduction of tuition fees, together with his musical colleague Johann Weiss Bielow founded the “Musik braucht Freunde” initiative at the Hannover Musikhochschule, which gives scholarships to gifted but needy students. In 2011 his recording of the complete works for violin and orchestra by Christian Sinding with the NDR Radiophilharmonie won Pizzicato magazine’s prestigious Supersonic Award.
