Rainer Stegmann began playing the guitar as a 12-year-old. In his youth he concentrated equally on classical music, rock and jazz, but after completing his secondary schooling, he dedicated himself completely to classical guitar.
He studied music in Frankfurt am Main at the Musikhochschule and Dr. Hoch's Konservatorium. He was especially influenced by master classes given by the Assad Duo and Manuel Barrueco. In addition to his intensive work as a teacher, since his student days Rainer Stegmann has pursued an active career as a performing artist, both as a soloist and collaborating with various chamber music ensembles.
He specializes in the performance of New Music. Rainer Stegmann has devoted many years to performing the works of contemporary composers such as Leo Brouwer, Toru Takemitsu and Benjamin Britten.
His GENUIN CDs “Soundscapes” and “Soundscapes II” feature New Music programming and have received an enthusiastic reception from music lovers worldwide.
