Lars Conrad and Daniel Prinz came together by a stroke of good fortune during an audition. Since their acceptance into the Concert Promotion Program of the German Music Competition in 2022, they have attracted attention with sensitive and carefully curated, thematically engaging programs. They are guided by overarching themes – whether historical, sociological, or psychological in nature. The two are united by the conviction that the lied, as a medium, always addresses pressing concerns of individuals and society across the ages Centuries-old texts can serve as mirrors, encouraging listeners to reflect on their own experiences. Vulnerability and sensitivity play a significant role for the two musicians, as is reflected in their multilayered interpretations. Their program Männer. Zwischen Rausch und Verzweiflung (Men Between Ecstasy and Despair) fully embodies this artistic approach.
The two artists honed their craft in Rostock, Leipzig, Berlin, Zaragoza, and London, and have participated in masterclasses and important festivals such as Heidelberger Frühling, LIEDBasel, exzellenz labor lied, Leeds Song and Carnegie Hall SongStudio. Furthermore, they are prizewinners and finalists in various international competitions, including the International Interpretation Competition for Ostracized Music – Verfemte Musik, the International Schubert Competition Dortmund, the International Robert Schumann Competition in Zwickau, and “Das Lied” in Heidelberg. Since the winter semester of 2025/26, they have been pursuing the Concert Exam degree as a song duo in the class of Wolfram Rieger at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin.
As scholarship holders in the Concert Promotion Program, they have given lied recitals throughout Germany and made recordings for DLF and NDR (German public broadcasters). The two musicians are especially pleased to reach people who previously had no contact with art songs. On their journeys, they find that the art song speaks to people directly and is by no means a dying art form. This album is intended to be an expression of this conviction – and a celebration of the vitality of the lied.
