ensemble aisthesis

The ensemble aisthesis, specializing in new music of the 20th and 21st centuries, exists to promote the comprehensive perception of music, as its Greek-inspired name indicates. Under the artistic direction of the founder, Walter Nußbaum, up to 20 instrumentalists work on repertoire that ranges from modern classics such as Schönberg, Webern, Boulez, Stockhausen, and Lachenmann to exemplary works of the Romantic era by Wagner or Mahler.
The commissioned compositions are always created in direct collaboration with the composers. In addition, the ensemble aisthesis is dedicated to the historically informed performance practice of early music. The close cooperation with the SCHOLA HEIDELBERG is characterized by groundbreaking concert formats such as Prinzhorn, Heimathen or the CD production Nuits – weiß wie Lilien.
The ensemble aisthesis regularly performs in Heidelberg and is a guest at festivals such as musica viva in Munich, the Zurich Festival, the Romanesque Night in Cologne, the Tongyeong International Music Festival in South Korea, the Kassel Music Days, and the Basel Music Forum. The reference recording Leibowitz – Compositeur, which features numerous first releases to mark the composer’s 100th birthday in 2013, has received much acclaim in promoting the work and creativity of René Leibowitz.
