Born in Switzerland in 1999, harpist Tjasha Gafner graduated from the Juillard School in New York where she had studied with Nancy Allen. Before that she had already completed a soloist master’s degree with Letizia Belmondo at the University of Music Lausanne (HEMU).

In September 2023, Tjasha Gafner won both the 1st prize and the audience prize at the prestigious ARD competition in Munich. She has received more than 20 awards and won 1st prizes at the International Harp Competition Felix Godefroid (Belgium, 2012), Suoni d’Arpa (Italy, 2014) and the Martine Géliot Harp Competition (France, 2016), among others. In 2021, she was honored as „Soloist 2022“ at the MFP competition (Médias 12 Francophones Publics) and was awarded the Max D.Jost Prize and the Leenaards Cultural Scholarship. In 2023, she was selected by Die Zeit as one of the 30 significant personalities under 30 in Germany.

Since the age of ten, Tjasha Gafner has performed regularly in solo recitals in Germany, France, Italy, England, Belgium, Ukraine, Australia and Hong Kong, in legendary halls such as Berliner Philharmonie and Wiener Konzerthaus. She has been invited to perform as a soloist with orchestras such as Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Jeunes Virtuoses de New York, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra and London Mozart Players.

She was invited to perform on Swiss radio and television, BR-Klassik and France Musique and recorded her first CD at the age of 18. In 2021, she recorded two more albums in collaboration with flutist Héléna Macherel. In 2022 she gave her first masterclass during a solo tour in Argentina. In 2023, she traveled to Congo to play, teach and build instruments from scraps. Since 2020, Tjasha Gafner has been working with the theater company 2B Company and regularly tours throughout Europe.

She contributes to the expansion of the harp repertoire by creating her own transcriptions and collaborating with composers such as Heinz Holliger, Ziyi Tao, Jake Safirstein and Laurent Coulomb, who have dedicated works to her.
