Amelio Trio
Piano trio

The Amelio Trio was founded in 2012 at the suggestion of their instrumental teachers to participate in the Jugend musiziert competition. At that time, all members were just 13 years old. Today, having played together in this formation for over half their lives, the trio captivates audiences with its seamless interplay, stylistic diversity, curiosity, and unmistakable musical energy.
Nominated by the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Kölner Philharmonie, the Barbican Centre as well as the Philharmonie Luxembourg, the Amelio Trio has been selected as ECHO Rising Star for the 2026/27 season, leading to performances in Europe’s most renowned concert halls. The ensemble’s growing international career has been shaped by major competition successes, including the second prize at the renowned ARD International Music Competition 2023 in Munich, the Prize of the German Music Competition 2024, and the first prize at the International Schumann Chamber Music Prize Frankfurt 2022.
Concert tours take the Amelio Trio across Germany and other European countries, performing at prestigious venues, including the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Prinzregententheater Munich, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, as well as at renowned festivals such as the Schwetzingen SWR Festival. Alongside classical-romantic repertoire, the Amelio Trio passionately incorporates contemporary music into its programs. In doing so, the three musicians constantly explore versatile means of expression for their ensemble and refine their highly personal approach to each work.
Johanna Schubert plays a violin by Lorenzo Storioni (Cremona 1779) on loan from the prestigious German Musical Instrument Fund. Merle Geißler plays a cello by Giuseppe Dollenz (Trieste 1875), generously provided to her as a private loan.
