Michael Krause (*1962) has served as artistic director of the Göttingen Boys’ Choir since 2003. After studying music education and physics, he received his artistic training as a conductor with Wolfram Wehnert. Important impulses for his work with choirs also came from Gudrun Schröfel, Martin Schmidt, and Helmuth Rilling.

Assistant positions with the Marburg Bach Choir and the J. S. Bach Summer Academy (today the International Bach Festival Stuttgart) completed his musical education. Michael Krause works as a teacher of music and physics at the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium in Göttingen and has been director of its music program since 2009.

As director of the Göttingen Boys’ Choir he realizes a wide-ranging repertoire, often in co-operation with other youth ensembles. In this context, he has presented Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Johannes Brahms’s Fest- und Gedenksprüche, and John Rutter’s Magnificat in concert together with the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra and choirs of the Otto-Hahn-Gymnasium.

The a cappella programs he conceives likewise combine different epochs, genres, and cultures. He has made a particular contribution to the recognition of the work of Franz Herzog.
