Kirill Timofeev is a cellist, composer, and Artistic Director of the Festival KLANGS!NN who divides his life and work between Germany and St. Petersburg. His artistic identity reflects both the cultural depth of his native city and more than twenty-five years of musical life in the German-speaking world.

His connection to Central Europe began at age thirteen, when he travelled to Vienna for his first international concert. The experience sparked a lasting fascination with the German language, which he later studied with great dedication before moving to Stuttgart in 2000 to join the soloist class of Peter Buck (Melos Quartet).

Timofeev studied at the St Petersburg Conservatory with Anatoly Nikitin and Natalia Arzumanova, and briefly performed in Yuri Temirkanov’s orchestra, where he encountered conductors such as Gennady Rozhdestvensky and Mariss Jansons. Mentors and collaborators – including Kira Kraftzoff, Natalia Gutman, David Geringas, Margaret Faultless, Jaap ter Linden, Daniel Schnyder, Gilles Apap, and Giora Feidman – shaped his broad artistic outlook.

In 2002, he co-founded the Rastrelli Cello Quartet, establishing a major international profile through performances at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, the Berlin Philharmonie, the Rheingau Musikfestival, among many others. Since 2025, Timofeev has been the Artistic Director of the Festival KLANGS!NN in Marktoberdorf (Bavaria, Germany). The festival explores musical connections between Germany and the cultural heritage of Saint Petersburg, focusing on composers, performers, and historically rooted dialogue.

Alongside his ensemble work, Timofeev has renewed his focus on his solo and compositional career. His album, Capricci and Bagatelles, pairs the works of Joseph Dall’Abaco with his own compositions – virtuosic, expressive, and stylistically adventurous.

Kirill Timofeev is the father of two children and, as both a person and a musician, is guided by artistic integrity, cultural dialogue, and a lifelong passion for music.
