Cellist Kirill Timofeev’s GENUIN debut album offers a summery journey through the cello’s past and present. He pairs newly rediscovered works by the composer and cellist Joseph Dall’Abaco with his own compositions for solo cello. Though separated by centuries, the Baroque master and the present-day Rastrelli Quartet cellist meet as kindred spirits, their playful caprices revealing ever-changing colors of Timofeev’s instrument. Moving from Bach to Paganini, from parchment to WhatsApp messages, and from a playful wink to deep seriousness, the album invites listeners on a rewarding journey of discovery. It celebrates freedom of form, the expressive power of miniature structures, and the art of shaping musical ideas into finely crafted, concentrated statements.
