2025 Bach Prize Winner and SWR Kultur New Talent 2026 – Jan Čmejla – releases award-winning concert
Born in Prague in 2003, Jan Čmejla is considered one of the most exciting pianists of his generation. Last year, he became the first Czech to win the International Bach Competition in the piano category, and he also received the Audience Award as well as several special prizes. Since January 2026, he has been supported as an SWR Kultur New Talent.
Today, his acclaimed prize-winner’s concert, recorded in the Great Hall of the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, has been released digitally on all streaming and download platforms. In addition to works by Johann Sebastian Bach, whose music plays a key role for him, Čmejla also performs selected arrangements, such as those by Ferruccio Busoni or Dame Myra Hess. The program is complemented by works by Sergei Rachmaninoff and György Ligeti, in which he impressively displays his extraordinary virtuosity.
