Following her acclaimed recordings of Fanny Hensel’s “Das Jahr” and J.S. Bach’s “Goldberg Variations,” pianist Sophia Weidemann will release her third solo album on GENUIN classics in May 2026. The focus is on two contrasting masterpieces by Johannes Brahms: the youthful and powerful Handel Variations, Op. 24 (1861), and the profound and intimate Piano Pieces, Op. 118 (1893).
Tradition Meets Modernity
A special highlight of the recording is the partner at Sophia Weidemann’s side: the flagship instrument of the traditional manufacturer August Förster from Löbau. The warm, romantic sound of the concert grand piano bridges the gap to Brahms’s bygone world of sound—a connection that may well have originated during the composer’s travels through Saxony and Thuringia.
The Perfect Setting
With its legendary acoustics, the Jesus-Christus-Kirche in Berlin-Dahlem offers the ideal space for the powerful dynamics of the Variations and the delicate intimacy of the late piano pieces.

Look forward to a recording that combines profound interpretation with masterful craftsmanship. The release is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
