Koch performs Mendelssohn Bartholdy
The passionate Mendelssohn. The happy Felix. The versatile Felix Mendelssohn had a wide range of qualities which recent prize winner Tobias Koch is presenting on his new GENUIN release—and there’s more: from the rapt, dream-like Irish melody at the beginning of the CD to the grandly laid out Rondo capriccioso, the Düsseldorf-based pianist achieves a programmatic arc including wondrous gems composed by Mendelssohn’s sister Fanny. These works are, note-for-note, on par with those of her brother. Koch renders Fanny Mendelssohn’s works with equal portions of deeply felt emotion and color, making the nearly 200-year-old concert grand he performs on sound as it is from another world altogether.
"With this, Tobias Koch and Genuin have succeeded in making a recording that is doubtless one of this year’s best piano recordings. In particular, Mendelssohn shines here in a light that is appropriate for his oeuvre."(Klassik.com)
"Inspired and lost in dreams, almost as if from another world."
