At GENUIN, a major orchestra boldly embarks on an ambitious artistic undertaking: the MDR Leipzig Symphony Orchestra, under its Chief Conductor Dennis Russell Davies, presents Bruckner’s symphonic cathedrals in the order in which they were composed - each in its original first version. Listeners encounter the works in their overarching span while, in unprecedented fashion, drawing closer to every step along the path of their development. The cycle now unfolds in monthly releases, beginning with the Symphony in F minor, the so-called “Study Symphony.” This live recording shows the artistic stature at which Bruckner enters his symphonic oeuvre and, in its details, already offers glimpses of the characteristic features of the mature symphonies. It is an opening that combines passion with a willingness to take risks.
