Between Heaven and Earth
Violin Concertos by Beethoven and Berg
![]()
Yvonne Smeulers, the internationally second CD on GENUIN: two milestones of the repertoire, the violin concertos by Ludwig van Beethoven and Alban Berg. The Dutch virtuoso is thereby building on the success of her highly praised first CD with works by Eugène Ysaÿe. The two violin concertos play a unique role in the repertoire, putting musical sense before virtuosity, content before external appearance. Beethoven and Berg combine improvisational lightness with depth. Yvonne Smeulers crosses broad horizons in her new recording, which is deeply serious, but also full of exuberant musical joy.
Das Orchester
In his review, Günter Buhles describes soloist Yvonne Smeulers' interpretation as "powerful," "with great calm," "musical charm" and "youthful optimism": "Splendidly, both the soloist and the BSOF, long familiar with a diverse repertoire, prove themselves under Peter Kuhn."
Günter Buhles in the magazine Das Orchester, 12/2020
