Tillmann Höfs
Horn
Tillmann Höfs is the winner of the 2017 German Music Competition. It was the first time in 33 years that the prize had been awarded to a horn player. Tillmann Höfs grew up in a family of musicians and had already learned to play the trumpet as a very young child. It was on this instrument that he won first prize at the national level in the competition "Jugend musiziert" and scholarships from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben and the German public service broadcaster NDR, among other awards. In 2011, he switched to the horn and again won the “Jugend musiziert” National Prize along with several special prizes.
From 2012 to 2014, Tillmann Höfs was a junior student under Ab Koster at the Andreas-Franke-Akademie of the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater. Since 2015, he has studied at the Berlin University of the Arts with Christian-Friedrich Dallmann on a grant from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. He has received additional musical support and instruction from Christian Lampert, Tobias Heimann, Sebastian Posch, Ozan Çakar, Přemysl Vojta and his father, Matthias Höfs.
Tillmann Höfs gained orchestral experience in the German Youth Orchestra, the NDR Youth Orchestra and the “junge norddeutsche philharmonie” under conductors such as Christoph Altstaedt, Thomas Hengelbrock, Krzysztof Urbański, Christoph Eschenbach, Matthias Pintscher and Markus Stenz. As a soloist, he has given concerts with ensembles such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Staatskapelle Halle, the Philharmonie Baden-Baden, the Camerata Hamburg and the Camerata Instrumentale Berlin, playing works by Mozart, Saint-Saëns, Gabler, Britten and Richard Strauss.
