Noriko Kitano received earliest piano instruction at the age of five in her native city of Osaka, Japan. She was invited as a nine-year-old to perform for radio and television and later studied at the College of Music in Osaka, with, among other teachers, Max Egger.
In 1975 she was a prize winner at the “International Competition of French Piano Music.”
In 1981 Noriko Kitano earned a music performance degree (Künstlerische Reifeprüfung) at the Musikhochschule Detmold, studying with Karl Engel, Peter Feuchtwanger and Paul Badura-Skoda. Since 1978 she has been an instructor at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster.
Noriko Kitano regularly performs as a soloist in chamber music concerts in Germany and internationally. She has also established her reputation in recital and in concert and broadcast performances as well as with her many CD productions of New Music, including premiere performances. Since 1997 she has gone on an annual tour of performances in Japan’s most important concert halls. She was awarded the Günter Bergmann Prize in Norway in 2005.
