Wataru Hisasue (*1994 in Kyoto) has received numerous accolades, including second prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels 2025; third prize and a special prize for the best interpretation of the commissioned work by Pascal Dusapin at the 66th ARD International Music Competition; two jury-awarded special prizes (the Liszt-Bartók Prize and the Beethoven Prize from the G. Henle Verlag) at the 2024 Concours Géza Anda; all three prizes at the Kyoto Aoyama Music Foundation Awards; first prize at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Conservatory Competition in 2016; and both first prize and the audience prize at the 7th International Piano Competition of Lyon (France).

Hisasue has performed extensively in countries such as Germany, Japan, France, Spain, Finland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. He has been invited to prestigious festivals including the Audi Summer Concerts, the Schwetzingen SWR Festival, the Festival de Torroella de Montgrí, and the Première Rencontre autour du Piano in Guadeloupe. As a soloist, he has performed with prominent orchestras, including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra. His collaborations with renowned conductors include Michael Francis, Mikhail Pletnev, and Kazushi Ōno.

Scholarships from the Heiwado Foundation, the Rohm Music Foundation, the Stiftung Freunde Junger Musiker e.V. Berlin, and the Carl Bechstein Foundation have supported Hisasue’s work. His musical education has been shaped by Kuniko Murakami and Yasuko Tasumi in Japan, Gilead Mishory at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, Emmanuel Strosser at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, and Pascal Devoyon and Klaus Hellwig at the Universität der Künste Berlin.

Wataru Hisasue has released several albums with distinguished labels.
