Pictures at an Exhibition
Young people in Venezuela are certainly born with an instinct for mambo... However, only in the past decade have young orechstral musicians from there caught the attention of audiences around the world by raising the temperature in concert halls. Now the Banda Sinfónica Simón Bolívar, directed by Thomas Clamor, is on the verge of taking the world by storm. The new GENUIN classics CD features works from Mendelssohn to Mussorgsky, from classical concertante repertoire all the way to Latin rhythms full of irrepressible energy: Perfect intonation, exceptional ensemble sound, razor-sharp rhythms... From the very first bar, the CD’s infectious rhythms will bring listeners to their feet: ¡Ay, qué rico!
American Record Guide
"... this disk is irresistible, and the sound is terrific."
Review on the American Record Guide by Roger Hecht, 5/20/2013
Fanfare
"... such is the degree of precision and polish that these young people bring to bear on this music. Recommended, then, to a far larger audience than just band enthusiasts, although certainly none of them will want to miss this disc."
Review on the magazine Fanfare 10/9/2013 by David DeBoor Canfield
