Apollo & Marsyas—A Myth Set to Music

Apollo & Marsyas—A Myth Set to Music

To mark the release of the album "Apollo & Marsyas," the Marsyas Baroque ensemble invites you to a release concert.

The program centers on one of the most radical stories in Greek mythology: the musical contest between Apollo and Marsyas and its cruel outcome. It is a tale of art and power, of moderation and excess, of beauty and pain. Accompanied by music that literally gets under your skin.

The award-winning early music ensemble Marsyas Baroque is dedicated to works from the 17th and 18th centuries that balance improvisational freedom with formal structure. Compositions by Telemann, Gesualdo, Vivaldi, Bach, and others are paired with a commissioned work by Alessandra Bellino (*1970).

Bremen-based illustrator Anke Bär will accompany the concert with live drawings that visually capture and extend the musical process.
