Terra Nova Collective: Pieter van Maldere – The Rediscovered Genius
The ultimate seal of quality: the fact that Pieter van Maldere’s symphonies were long mistaken for genuine “Haydns” reveals the extraordinary quality and remarkable appeal of his work.
For decades, van Maldere’s symphonies were mistakenly attributed to Joseph Haydn, the “father of the symphony.” Yet van Maldere was far more than a mere contemporary – he was a visionary pioneer whose style already left a profound impression on the young Mozart during his visit to Brussels. Now the Terra Nova Collective, under the direction of Vlad Weverbergh, is finally bringing this forgotten giant out of the shadow of the classical world’s greatest stars.
The ensemble – a dedicated collective of visionaries and virtuosos united by a passion for music and history – remains true to its mission: to uncover hidden treasures from the archives and present them with a precision and energy that allow audiences to experience music history anew. With this EP, the Terra Nova Collective unleashes the sparkling vitality and bold spirit that make van Maldere’s works so timeless. This is the long-overdue rehabilitation of a Flemish master who is finally taking his rightful place in the pantheon of classical music under his own name – alongside Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven.
But stay tuned! Another milestone for the Terra Nova Collective is already on the horizon: the complete recording of Pieter van Maldere’s extant symphonies.
