The longing for sound: for all the differences between the traditions that gave rise to the English part song and the French chanson, both share a quest for beauty and a desire to reach people directly. Under the direction of Franziska Kuba, Vocalconsort Leipzig brings this spirit vividly to life in every note of its new GENUIN album. Two genres meet here that, despite their different origins, prove remarkably close to one another. The program brings together twentieth-century polyphonic vocal works by leading composers of their time: Edward Elgar and Benjamin Britten encounter Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel. For all their stylistic diversity, the works are united by their sensitive interpretation of the text and the distinctive sonority of a cappella singing. Vocalconsort Leipzig sings with youthful freshness, tremendous joy in music-making, and crystalline homogeneity – a performance to warm the heart!
