Johannes Obermeier

Johannes Obermeier (*1998) is one of the most versatile artists of his generation. He has won several national and international prizes in piano, composition, and saxophone and performs successfully in Germany and abroad. In 2022 he won Third Prize at the ARD International Music Competition in piano and First Prize at the International Schimmel Piano Competition. In 2025 he was appointed professor of piano and chamber music at the Stella Vorarlberg Private University College for Music in Feldkirch.

After early studies in saxophone (with Koryun Asatryan) and piano (with Olaf Dreßler), he enrolled in a program of business administration at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2016, earning a Master of Science in 2022. From 2019 to 2024, Johannes Obermeier also studied piano with Adrian Oetiker and Michael Schäfer and composition with Jan Müller-Wieland at the University of Music and Theater Munich.

For many years, Johannes Obermeier has been a sought-after chamber musician and a guest at numerous festivals. His work involves collaborations with musicians such as Peter Michael Hamel, Kent Nagano, Janina Fialkowska, John Adams, and Gerold Huber. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, and the Munich Radio Orchestra.

His works, written for a wide variety of ensembles, are performed regularly. With his opera •F•i•v•e•, he brought his first full-length musical theater work to the stage in November 2023. As a composer, he is the winner of the 2022 Günter Bialas Sponsorship Prize from the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts. He is also a scholarship holder of the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris.
