Established in 1945, the Wuert temberg Philharmonic Reutlingen has developed into
an orchestra much in demand internationally. The post of Artistic Director was most recently held by Norichika Iimori and the Swede Ola Rudner became Principal Conductor at the beginning of the 2008/2009 concert season.
In addition to several concert series in Reutlingen, the orchestra regularly performs on Südwestrundfunk and Deutschlandfunk. From 2004 to 2006 it was Orchestra-in-Residence at the International Rossini Festival in Bad Wildbad. The orchestra has earned an excellent international reputation on numerous tours of Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and the Netherlands. Concert tours with Edita Gruberova and José Carreras, as well as several tours of Switzerland under the baton of Ruggero Raimondi, Vesselina Kasarova, Neil Shicoff,
Peter Seiffert, and Anges Baltsa have met with highest praise. In 2008 the orchestra performed on a concert tour of Hungary and Austria under the baton of Ola Rudner, including a return engagement at the Musikverein in Vienna. An additional high point was a concert tour of Japan in 2006 as official cultural ambassador of Baden-Württemberg.
The Wuerttemberg Philharmonic Reutlingen also performed to wide acclaim at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Rotterdam Opera Festival, at Cologne’s and Berlin’s Philharmonie, in Munich as well as in Lucerne and Milan, where the orchestra regularly performs.
The WPR performs with widely acclaimed soloists such as Gidon Kremer, Daniel Hope,
Frank Peter Zimmermann, Natalia Gutman, Sabine Meyer and Schlomo Mintz, as well as
under the baton of internationally renowned guest conductors. Numerous CDs and radio recordings testify to the artistic work of the Wuerttemberg Philharmonic.
