Runge and Ammon play Russian repertoire
After the sensational success of their tango CD, which was released with GENUIN in 2008, Eckart Runge and Jacques Ammon—otherwise known as “cello project”— set out on a voyage to the Wild East. The souvenirs they’ve returned with include not only some of the wonderfully melancholic and passionate works by Rachmaninoff, with guaranteed pangs... As if that were not enough, the two have also brought back new scenes from Moscow’s long boulevards and the deep and inscrutable Russian soul: music by the intense, funny and tragic Nikolai Kapustin, including the world premiere of his outstanding second cello sonata.
