Mozart Symphonies

On its 60th birthday, the Folkwang Kammerorchester Essen is giving itself and its audience a youthful present: virtuoso orchestral music by the ever-young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The elite chamber orchestra's second GENUIN CD, following the highly acclaimed recording of Mozart's Horn Concertos with Christoph Eß as soloist, features symphonies from all phases of Mozart's life: from early works to the great symphony in G minor. The award-winning conductor Johannes Klumpp lets his ensemble play this filigree yet passionate music extremely fast and at the same time with deep feelings. A real pleasure!

"Die CD zeigt sofort, dass dieses Orchester und sein Leiter wissen, was historisch informierte Spielweise ist. ... So ist der Klang luzide und zugleich stringent, das Vibrato verdickt die Streicher nicht, lässt sie aber bisweilen 'aufblühen', die Bläser sind brillant. Im Tempo meist zügig, werden die Themen reich akzentuiert, ja artikuliert (bis in die Hörner!). ... Sie 'sprechen' mit der Musik und zelebrieren sie nicht. Sie belegen auch, dass modernes Instrumentarium einer historisch versierten Wiedergabe von Mozarts Werk nicht im Wege stehen muss."
