The young, congenial, prize-winning Duo Arp Frantz has been in existence for 16 years. On their third GENUIN recording, Julian Arp and his piano partner Caspar Frantz offer surprises with their interpretations that are both modern and true to the original style. One can hear how much the Duo feels at home with Bach and Kurtág from their rapturous, virtuoso ensemble playing in Bach's gamba sonatas and their sensitively scrupulous interpretation of the Kurtág pieces, almost shyly embedded in between. This is deeply moving music of a reassuring intensity.
