Variations on Libertango
What is percussion? To answer that question, you'd need 500 pages, if you wanted to list all the instruments and all the ways of playing them that this group of instruments has to offer. Or one needs just 60 minutes – that's the length of the new GENUIN CD by the young percussionist Alexei Gerassimez in the meritorious series "Prize Winners of the German Music Competition". What we experience here is a true percussion demonstration: we are bombarded by a flood of sounds, events and colors, and the range from the spherical floating of the vibraphone to the gripping rhythms of the snare drum is enormous. Alexei Gerassimez's playing is virtuoso, sensitive and musical: this is a thrilling debut, and not only for percussion fans!
