Some voices disappear from history. Others seem to fall silent—until suddenly they can be heard all the more clearly. One such voice is being brought back to life with Pieter van Maldere. The Terra Nova Collective has delved deeply into the works of the Brussels-based composer, whose symphonies were attributed to Joseph Haydn for decades. One of these symphonies is on the program, which will be performed in the Mendelssohn Hall of the Gewandhaus in Leipzig.
The program is rounded out by two works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The Symphony in G minor, K. 550, will be performed on period instruments, offering a fresh perspective on one of the most famous symphonies in music history. In the Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra in A major, K. 622, Vlad Weverbergh, the ensemble’s director, takes on the solo part on the basset clarinet, bringing to life the sonic space Mozart envisioned.
