Bruckner Cycle with Dennis Russell Davies and the MDR Symphony Orchestra to be released worldwide

"What a marvelous legacy Anton Bruckner has left us." (Dennis Russell Davies)

Starting May 8, 2026, the acclaimed Bruckner recordings conducted by outgoing MDR Chief Conductor Dennis Russell Davies with the MDR Symphony Orchestra will be released as a digital edition. The live recordings of all 11 Bruckner symphonies in their original versions, made between 2020 and 2024, will be released on a monthly basis.

The series kicks off with Anton Bruckner’s Study Symphony in F minor from 1863. In June, the so-called “Nullte” (No. 0) Symphony from 1869 will follow. By April 2027, Symphonies Nos. 1 through 9 will complete the edition. The recordings will be released on all major download and streaming platforms.

MDR Chief Conductor Dennis Russell Davies: “When we first performed Bruckner’s Eighth together in 2019, the idea for a complete Bruckner cycle quickly took shape, one we wanted to complete by the composer’s 200th birthday. We made a conscious decision to perform all eleven symphonies—of which there are multiple versions—in their first versions, thereby offering a fresh perspective on Bruckner’s oeuvre. It is particularly worthwhile to know and hear the first versions of his symphonies, as they are truly wonderful music full of originality.”
