The 2nd International String Quartet Competition in Bad Tölz has come to a successful conclusion

The 2nd International String Quartet Competition in Bad Tölz came to a successful close last Sunday. The winners were selected from a total of ten participating string quartets through a three-stage process.

First place went to the Isla Quartet from the United Kingdom. The Kairi Quartet from Japan took second place, followed by the Kandinsky Quartet from Austria in third place.

The expert jury, which this year included Holger Busse, was extremely impressed by the high level of all the participating young string quartets. Following the competition, three concert evenings will take place from April 13 to 15, 2026, with the program for each evening curated by one of the winning quartets.

For the first time this year, a GENUIN Special Prize was also awarded. The Vienna-based Kandinsky Quartet will receive an album production with worldwide release on all major streaming and download platforms.
