Eric Schneider hails from the Bergisches Land region of Germany and studied mathematics at the University of Cologne and piano at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. After early success in competitions and solo performances, he discovered a deep passion for art song and chamber music and went on to study Lied accompaniment with Hartmut Höll. He received formative artistic guidance from Paul Badura-Skoda, Alfred Brendel, and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, and owes particular thanks to Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, whose teaching shaped his stylistic development. In the 1990s, he also completed further studies in orchestral conducting with Rolf Reuter in Berlin.
His numerous recordings include Schubert’s Winterreise and Apparition with Christine Schäfer, as well as Die schöne Müllerin and Wanderers Nachtlied with Matthias Goerne. With Anna Prohaska, he recorded the albums Sirène and Behind the Lines. His solo album features works by Leoš Janácek, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Robert Schumann.
Eric Schneider lives in Berlin, where he teaches Lied at the Berlin University of the Arts.
