… like an improvisation born of sweat and inner fire, while at the same time characterized by disarmingly natural and straightforward playing.
Der Tagesspiegel

Critics and jury members continually draw attention to the soulful, poetic playing, the remarkably beautiful tone, and the great musical energy and intensity heard in performances by Natalia Ehwald. She began playing the piano at the age of five, and was soon giving piano recitals and making her first appearances as a soloist with orchestra. She gave her debut in the U.S. at the age of twentyfour and has since performed regularly in concert tours throughout Europe and in Asia and America.
Ehwald has made guest appearances with the Radio Symphony Orchestra Warsaw, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Symphoniker Hamburg, Łódź Philharmonic, Magdeburgische Philharmonie, Mittelsächsische Philharmonie, and Filharmonia Zielonogórska; performed at the Berliner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Berlin, Hamburger Musikhalle, and Beethovenhaus Bonn, among other venues; and been featured at such festivals as the Sommerliche Musiktage Hitzacker, Puplinge Classique Genf, and Internationales Pianistenfestival Böblingen. Natalia Ehwald won awards at national and international competitions at an early age, including at the 1999 Carl Czerny International Piano Competition in Prague and the 1997 International Grotrian Piano Competition in Braunschweig. These were followed by further competition successes, notably First Prize at the International Greta Erikson Competition in Sweden and both First Prize and the Menuhin Foundation Special Prize at the International Robert Schumann Competition for Young Pianists in Zwickau.
She was awarded the Prize for Special Creativity at the International Seiler Piano Competition in Greece in 2006, and won Second Prize the following year at the music competition of the Kulturkreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft (BDI). She has been sponsored by a scholarship of the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation and was also a scholarship holder of both the Hans and Eugenia Jüttin and the Gotthard Schierse foundations.
Natalia Ehwald was born in Jena. After training for four years with Sigrid Lehmstedt at the Schloss Belvedere Special School of Music in Weimar, she enrolled at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki at the age of only sixteen, where she studied with Erik T. Tawaststjerna.
In 2002 she began her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg with Evgeni Koroliov. Upon graduating she continued her piano studies in his master class in 2009, pursuing the Konzertexamen graduate degree, which she obtained with honors in 2013. Ehwald has drawn further musical inspiration from teachers including Bernard Ringeissen, Arie Vardi, and Georg Sava. She has made radio recordings in collaboration with NDR Kultur, Deutschlandfunk, and Polish Radio. From 2009 to 2011 Ehwald taught at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.
