Chamber Academy Basel
The profile of the Chamber Academy Basel, which was founded in 2009, differs significantly from that of other orchestras. The Chamber Academy Basel, founded as the chamber orchestra of the School of Music of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland performs without a conductor, with soloists largely from its own members and rotating leadership. As a result, the success and quality of the ensemble depends on each individual member – each one gaining experience in the ensemble, as the leader of a section, and possibly even as a soloist. Brian Dean leads the orchestra from the first chair, but from time to time hands over responsibility for leadership for rehearsals and concerts to members of the orchestra. The ensemble, which mainly consists of selected students attending the School of Music Basel, is characterized by the highest level of professionalism and musicality, and its ability to rouse enthusiasm, which audiences can immediately sense in concert. Teamwork and mutual support among all the individual members are the foundation of the artistic work of the Chamber Academy Basel, and hold promise of stirring performances. In addition to concerts in the Basel region, the orchestra has made very successful appearances on tour and at festivals including the Festival of Sacred Music in Leytron, Switzerland and the Dies academicus of the University of Basel, and on a tour of Israel in the summer of 2013. The orchestra regularly collaborates with renowned soloists such as Felix Renggli or Thomas Demenga.
