Adam Markowski
Violin
Adam Markowski comes from a family deeply rooted in music. His grandfather, Josef Schwab, was principal cellist of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and later at the Komische Oper Berlin. His grandmother, Hanna Dippner, continues to perform as a concert pianist and is also an accomplished painter. Making music with his family has always been a natural and formative part of Adam’s life, and he received his first violin lessons from his father, Stefan Markowski.
After completing his studies with Stephan Picard at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin, Adam embarked on a career as an orchestral musician. He first performed in Berlin, at the opera house, before moving to Leipzig, where he currently holds the position of Assistant Principal Second Violin with the MDR Radio Symphony Orchestra. Alongside this role, he is actively involved in various concert projects as concertmaster and primus inter pares of the Kammersymphonie Leipzig.
Master classes and successful participation in international violin competitions have enriched his artistic journey, as has his engagement in diverse musical ensembles and genres.
Having grown up surrounded by chamber music and spent many years playing in orchestras, Adam has come to view one of his most profound musical experiences as the realisation that playing together yields more emotionally than the sheer sum of the individual musical energies.
Beyond music, Adam has discovered a second artistic passion: photography, particularly analogue. Moving between these two creative forms provides him with a sense of balance and renewal. While music allows him to experience the transient flow of time and emotion, photography – especially in portraits and still lifes – offers the power to pause that flow, creating moments of reflection and stillness.
