Duo Codax
The first time Adam Markowski and Verena Louis performed together – during a competition in Portugal, without ever having met before – they immediately sensed a shared musical language. The spontaneity and depth of this encounter left a lasting impression on both musicians. So when their paths crossed again in Leipzig, it felt only natural to join forces and form a duo.
Since then, performing as Duo Codax, they have delighted in exploring imaginative and unconventional program concepts, always in search of hidden gems to enrich their concert repertoire.
Alongside the classical duo literature that lies at the core of their artistic identity, the duo is particularly drawn to works they believe deserve greater recognition. Among these are the sonatas by Amanda Maier and Robert Fuchs, which have since become cornerstones of their repertoire. As a tribute to their beginnings, they decided to pair these two sonatas with the work through which their musical partnership began: the Sonata in G major by Johannes Brahms. By happy coincidence, all three sonatas were composed or published in 1878 – an inspiring detail that ultimately shaped the concept of their album.
